Licking County Economic Stimulus Task Force
A public-private partnership advocating to maximize the impact of the federal stimulus package on the economy of Licking County and our region.

Update: October 2009
Though initially ommitted from State of Ohio stimulus priority lists and subsequent revisions, word came in early October 2009 that the Stimulus Task Force's number one transportation priority, re-starting of the Cherry Valley Interchange Project, was slated to be funded. The announcement came from Congressman Pat Tiberi and LCATS officials on Friday, Oct. 2 following a meeting with officials from ODOT District 5 indicating that design work had been re-started.

Summary
In Licking County, when government and business work together for progress, the sky’s the limit for what can be accomplished. A concerted effort was needed to attempt to ensure that Licking County achieves the greatest possible outcome from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act signed into law by President Obama in February 2009.

The Licking County Economic Stimulus Task Force was an advocacy effort of the Licking County Commissioners, Licking County Chamber of Commerce, and the Heath-Newark-Licking County Port Authority.

Members of the Task Force included representatives from among the leadership of local government and area employers in Licking County.

The Task Force developed a prioritized list of federal stimulus projects from Licking County organizations. The list, published March 27, was considerate of those projects deemed to bring the greatest economic stimulus to Licking County.

This was an advocacy effort. The task force did not control what projects were funded or not. Task Force members were asked to be advocates for a unified list of projects with state and federal officials.

The membership of the task force was representative of stakeholders in the community. All citizens of Licking County were invited to submit projects to recovery.ohio.gov for consideration by the task force and are continually invited to follow the progress of the task force at stimulustaskforce.com.

The Heath-Newark-Licking County Port Authority, in concert with Licking County Planning, LCATS, and other local planning organizations, staffed and organized the work product of the Task Force.

The initial goal was met which was to be prepared to begin a concerted advocacy effort on behalf of Licking County by April 1.
